These photographs synthesize materials and processes, depicting the landscape of my hometown, San Francisco, California.

These images capture spaces that have left a lasting impression on me—like my favorite childhood café and the paths I took to school—each location resonating with vivid memories. The printmaking applied on top of them reflect the ways I interacted with these spaces and the affect they had on my own personal identity.

Through photography and printmaking, I adapt both processes to make the reproducible unique. By combining labor-intensive art forms, I alter my photographs and bring them into a physical space. The use of rice paper, inspired by wheat pasting—a technique often employed in public art—enhances this layering. Each photograph transforms into a mural, allowing me to represent not just what exists but also how I can reimagine it, creating a new space that lives solely on paper.

Using prints of hair as my subject and buildings as my canvas, the collaging process serves as a means of reflection, embodying the compromises I’ve navigated in representing myself within the spaces I inhabit while also seeking to escape them. The walls are only as real as I allow them to be.
